Part of being able to travel as much as we do is taking advantage of the best deals we can find. One of the ways we do that is by subscribing to two daily newsletters that do all the hard work of keeping up on travel trends – especially those points and miles and pricing deals that we use all the time. Our two faves are the Daily Drop and Thrifty Traveler. The Daily Drop is specifically designed to inform you and help you make the most of the various points and miles that can be earned by your everyday usage of credit cards. (See our post on how to pick the right credit card for your travel style.) Today's newsletter, for example, told how to get to Europe from many US cities for as little as 15,000 points. Using our favorite travel bonus credit card's points, that means you can get to Europe for the equivalent of about $120 if you know how to do it. That's hard to top. And, making Daily Drop even more attractive, until this Thursday, May 9, signing up for the Daily Drop free newsletter will enter you in a drawing to win a trip for two to Aruba, including $2000 to spend on flights to get there. That's even harder to top, so do it today. Thrifty Traveler also contains a lot of great tutorial articles on points and miles on its website. But the real benefit of the Thrifty Traveler newsletter is a daily email containing the results of their relentless search for the best deals on flights. They have a free version, which will get you info on coach class domestic flights only, but we cough up the $89 yearly fee to get the Premium version, which includes flight deals in all seating classes and to all destinations foreign and domestic. If you take advantage of just one of the deals you find through them, you've more than made up the yearly fee. Speaking of great deals... As we told you earlier this week, our favorite travel credit card is currently offering an elevated bonus points offer for signing up. For a reasonable minimum initial spend and a small annual fee, you'll get travel benefits worth more than $900. And that's on top of lots of other benefits of this card that more than pay for its cost. This elevated offer only happens once a year and we don't know how long it will last, so take advantage. See our list of best apps for travel We've recently updated two posts full of tips to improve your travel, and yes, maybe save you some money, too. First, our general recommendations on the best apps for travel, and second, a specific post on the new app from Allianz Travel: the Allyz Travel Smart app. The Allyz app is so important for international travel as it helps you navigate foreign health systems and foreign languages should you need medical attention while traveling. We've researched doctors and hospitals with it in Spain and Vietnam. Download it now. You don't have to be an Allianz customer to use it. Thanks again for reading our newsletter, and here's to happy (and cheaper) travels, Tom and Kris |
